The only problem with home schooling is High School credits.
I was home schooled 9th and 10th grade, and I nearly didn't graduate due to CIHS not counting most of my credits.

Cost me mega amounts of money, and forced me to learn languages and concepts i never would have learned on my own. I will likely never use any of them in the future, but they were good for my overall knowledge of computers and history of languages.
I'm not sure it is worth the expense, but it is definatly an experience.

The money thing? Point taken. I understand that wholly. I'm trying to figure out how to balance paying back student loans and paying for a wedding right now.
As far as the languages and concepts? I didn't get any of that. We learned Java mostly, and skimmed on PHP/Perl/Python. I had ONE group project where we had to demonstrate form handling and validation, each in a different language. I got stuck with ASP.NET, and I learned enough to know I don't want to learn anymore. Everything I know, I learned on my own.
I think college turned me into an elitest bastard. That's all. Was anyone else that dude that stopped going to certain classes because they talked about the same concepts every period because of those two blonde girls in the front row who just kept saying "I don't understand..." FREAKIN' CHANGE YOUR MAJOR TO COMMUNICATIONS! YOU CAN'T LEARN THIS!
But the city bus, yea, I've grown to like it to. You meet the weirdest people on the bus.

...Oh crap! I ride the bus!

Eeek!
Back in college, to earn extra money, I teach old professionals basic Microsoft Office stuff. I mean really old people. Those old people who never had computer subjects back in their college days and wanted to update their knowledge for employment purposes. Maybe as old as my parents.
The good thing about it, since I only paid about 10% of tuition fees because of good grades, I kept the money all to myself!
Now I'm learning that lesson the hard way.

(university)
I even unintentionally learn new staff in there, so it's not useless. Stressful, no, i have to show up like few times in a week anyhow. Expensive, university is like 3,5 blocks from my home, and i probably would get stipend'ium if i would ask it. Time consuming, well no, we can drink beer and hang out even in classes (if we don't disturb others to much) - so can you say hanging out with your friends is waste of time or you would have something better to do?
Only thing that i have had to do extra, because i occasionally miss some classes, is an essay in philosophy, thats it! (and for the record i have not started doing that).
Someone told, that he had to learn new languages, that he would never learn by itself, in my case, in universety i had a opportunity to do the opposite (So i do not have Russian or German classes anymore
).
I do understand, that somewhere in Indonesia there might be smarter people, who are attending high school. But knowing how to speak and write in 5 languages, and program & script & write algorithms in a hole lot of languages, i do not feel to under educated (i feel pity who do, and despise who do not).
So i think university is a wonderful place.

Hmmm what has university taught me? Well it taught me that the illness that I will bear for the rest of my life doesn't have to hold me back. It also taught me to question things that I always believed,, like that I was no good at maths. It helped me to get back into the "real world" and to be around people... even occasionally allowing me to *gasp* approach them and talk to them without waiting for someone to talk to me.
Of course it also taught me other things, like my anxiety will always be bad if I don't recognise someone in the tutorial/practical/lecture.... and that I will always get sick during the last few weeks of semester! But one thing that my time at university has taught me is that I can actually do things.
Also it helps with my unquenchable thirst for knowledge
So even though I will be left with a huge HECS debt... I'm glad that I went back (and started a completely different course to what I originally enrolled in during 1999
).

Right now im going to a community college and get like 2000 back each semester. I also work there so It gave me a job. Some of the teachers were actually pretty amazing, because they were there to teach and loved it, they werent there to get money for research like in the big universitys.
