ok so i was reading this comic and thought "no way, Perl is way too slow and awkward, it was defiantly done in C++". i thought it would be a decent question to ask here. so what language do you think the universe was programed in?

Lisp. It's metaprogramming facilities make is a breeze. C++ cannot do such things.

i haven't played around with lisp enough to know. im a procedural programer, i fail at functional programing, i just haven't picked it up yet. im thinking about getting a book on lisp to learn it.

I hope you thought that, it kind of was the joke.
And really without getting into some deep philosophical discussion about how human readable computer languages could never really live up to the requirements necessary of coding the universe. We're stuck with mostly jokes about each individual language.

Is there a special reason that using C++ would require defiance?

Machine code, of course. A supreme being has no need for abstractions. It's only our limited capacities that force us to resort to metaphor. Direct understanding of reality would be a basic divine attribute.

Baavgai ninjaed my answer. It's machine code and there's no need for anything else.
