What language should I start with?

Posted 08 April 2011 - 01:13 PM

Hello

So I'm tired with coding site's in xhtml/css, I know want to start coding in programming languages like java or c++.
But I don't know which program to choose.

Could anyone tell me which language I should start with and also why?

I have no experience in programming.

Thanks in advance

That is a choice that you have to make...
All I can say they those 2languages are not to differente as you could think...

Every single one of the as theyr own specification and understanding...
In my case I started with c++ and now I'm learning Java...but you don't need to do the saime...

Did you think in learning other languages?
Like C# or start by learning C?

By the way you should have posted this at the Lounge not in Java room...

Look what people say here about languages and here also.
For my opinion, Java is good to start with since it has many tutorials and resources available online.
Also look at these suggestion:
Yahoo answer.
Yahoo
Why java

I think the saime, java will never be a bad start to someone that wants to learn. I would that it would be a pretty solid rock for you...
But in the end, is not about the language is all about the passion and the intentions that you have to learn a new language...

What you want to do with the new language can tell you which language to select! So what is your intention?

My obligatory Why Java? post:
http://thousandcodes...catid=1&tutid=1

However, Java is also not good for a lot of things, such as low level things, like bootloaders. Those things should really be reserved for C or Assembly. Java relies on its Virtual Machine and that in turn, relies on an OS (in most cases). Thus, it is good for high-level things, but not low-level things.

Well I think C# is a great starting language. It has the syntax of the most common languages (C-Style) but it is also very easy with its libraries and how it uses the .Net framework.

I followed the same path as MacJohn did, except I learned C first.

What I would suggest is learning C, then C++, then Java, and going on from there.

The reasoning behind this is with C, you get a taste of the lower lever of high-level programming language. C++, as can be guessed, is an extension of C because it integrates more Object Oriented Programming (OOP). Learning these two languages will then prepare you for the coding required in Java, which is all Object Oriented, and I must say, a lot cooler.

It really is your choice from then on where to go.

Honestly, learning how to create hacking/virus/malicious programs can be a GOOD thing. Of course, provided, you keep it to yourself and do not use it on any other computer that is not your own. Where would our security jobs be if they were full of people who don't know the basics of hacking?

IMO c#.
