Do you want me to close the other thread? You could have asked and it would have been moved!
Okay dokey.. closing this duplicate topic down then.
Err.. wrong topic for that message. This is a better home though. Can you explain what you mean? Disable it from windows as a whole? Via a program? Why not just flip the drive with a regular cd rom?

Sorry about the double forums I wasn't sure where exactly the question belonged . I just want to lock the burning feature or stop use of the cd drive in general which ever is easier. Basically prevent someone from being able to make a copy of a file/program on the machine. I already figured out how to disable USB flash drives but I'm at a loss concerning the cd burning.

Would removing any "Burning software" do the trick? Usually with a CD you need software to write to the device.

What OS is this for? Well how far are you willing to go? If you are on a windows OS I am certain you could modify the registry to do that. Being that burning is now part of the windows shell.
Honestly - just go buy a cdrom/dvdrom drive and plug it in. It's an easy and complete solution.
