Data Structures + Algorithms

Posted 26 April 2011 - 06:27 PM

Hi guys.

What I am basically looking for recommendations on a book on data structures and algorithms. Preferably one tailed to Java as that is my main programming language.

Before it's asked, yes I have googled and I have have read reviews on books covering these topics but most I have found tends to be split between the book's quality.

Any recommendations will be welcomed.

Thanks

The Java Data Structures Resource Thread is a good place to start. Sorry I don't have any book recommendations for you though. Hopefully this will help some. :)

Also, when looking for a book for a Data Structures I class, you want to look for the following topics:
-Linked Lists
-Stacks, Queues, Priority Queues
-Deques
-Bags
-Sets
-Maps/Dictionaries/Hashtables
-Hashing
-Big-O notation
-Recursion
-Trees
-Graphs
-Searching and Sorting
-Heaps

That's pretty comprehensive for a Data Structures I course.

Introduction to Algorithms, CLRS, Third Edition is widely considered to be one of the go-to books if you are looking to enhance your knowledge of algorithms or if you are looking for a refresher.

thanks for the help guys

My main problem is I do not seem to take in much from my data structures class. I understand the main concepts but I do not have a good understanding of the big O notation and how to determine it.

I'll definitely check out the resources.
