I believe you can already have your DIC blog redirect to an outside blog.

yes you can link your blog out.
As for the sidebars, i am on both sides of the comments thus far:
Forums,Tutorials,Code Snippets -> never use i just find may way from the nav at the top
find a job -> used it a couple times, but it does not find jobs in canada so mehn
contributors -> is cool, lets those with many submissions get a little credit, plus it allows users to determine how to rate responces i think by looking at the contributions of other members.
who's online -> also a nice feature personally, i like knowing how many ppl are on, or how many mods, team members, regular members are on. It's nice to see the traffic.
Your Controls -> like em, but if they were elsewhere i could deal, lol

What would you like to see in a new design? I'm focusing on usability, things you use often or would like to use often but can't because they aren't easily accessible in the current design/layout.
Ooh ooh ooh, I got one! More Python love! I've noticed that this site gives no love to Python, but Ruby has its own category, and own snippets. Now, I don't want to start a flamewar here, but I have yet to hear another Project Manager say something like "If only we had someone who was really good with Ruby!" Could we, out of charity, give Python its own category, and own area of the snippets (so it's not paired with Linux and Shell Scripts)?

all you have to do is ask Chris, if you're willing to start the population of a new category he's usually good to create it

Yup
I'm even willing to split out the forum if you can get a few good topics going on a regular basis.

Nah, I get what he's saying and have thought about a system like that on many occasions. All of the blogging systems need to come up with a way to utilize RSS feeds to "import" blog entries from sites you OWN. This way your myspace, blogspot, wordpress, blogger, and whatever other blogs you have can all be synched up.
The simple answer it to consolidate, and preferably, use your DIC blog, but that's not going to happen.
I 100% understand what you mean rockstar. I don't think I can make it happen easily, but we'll see how it goes. The redesign is going to keep me busy tweaking and re-coding for a while and since the blogs are an InvisionBoard plug-in, I don't like to mess with the underlying code. If anything I'd code up something new to tie in with the database directly.
Good ideas! Keep em' coming.

Hm, I'll dig around and see if I can't find the blogs plugin you speak of, and see if I can send you a patch file with the functionality in it. I think it would be a great addition to the site. This is something I've been toying around with for a while, so I'd be happy to write it myself. You know, it's the whole "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate" concept. I'd be glad to be part of the solution.

Hah!
If you do write something, make sure it's completely seperate code. I hate piggy backing on other applications because it makes upgrading a nightmare. I'd rather have a seperate page with it's own code and database calls.
I'd be happy to see what you come up with though.

just a thought:
is there any way to add a 2 or 3 custom link menu?
Then on top of the links already provided each user could have a couple of his/her most popular or favorite links in it?
May not be possible, just something i wished a lot of forums could work in.

Custom Menus would be really neat.
