Wisdom Teeth Removal

Posted 23 May 2011 - 08:21 PM

So, how about it? Are yours removed yet, or are you too young to have them?

This morning I went to my wifes hospital (she's a dentist) and had her remove my last two wisdom teeth. Since the wisdom teeth are so far back it's not uncommon to see them really damaged. You just can't brush that far back because your mouse can only open so wide.

So she put some local anesthetic and went to town. I'm really impressed with her, she took only 40 minutes to remove both teeth and it didn't even hurt a single bit. Literally no pain at all, just discomfort because I had to open my mouth really wide. I felt like I was getting a glasgow grin.

I hear that in the states you go under general anesthetic for removal. Is this correct? I feel it's overkill because I had my teeth removed easy enough.

One of my teeth had what's called a Polipo Pulpar in Spanish.

That's not my tooth btw, but that's basically what I had. Basically the pulp gets so infected that it produces this fleshy bulb as a last defense. Not pretty, and painful.

I'm a free man! No more wisdom teeth, no more chewing carefully!

Mine were removed many years ago, when I was still in High School.

I had mine removed a few years back when I still had braces, along with getting my top canines exposed. It sucked, suffice to say. I was eating soup, pudding, and ice cream for a week. It sucked. I do remember being particularly beligerent when they wanted to take me out to the car in a wheelchair.

A year later, I went back to the oral surgeon to have a couple molers taken out. That one wasn't so bad. I remember wanting to go to sleep after the surgery was over and on the way home, but trying to stay awake since my mom wouldn't have been able to get me inside otherwise. Then when I got home, the anesthesia wore off and I wasn't so tired. I think I ate soup for lunch, then was fine for dinner onwards.

Tl;dr- My teeth follow Murphy's law, and I hate going to the oral surgeon's.

I had mine removed almost a year ago. They used an IV method to "put me to sleep" when it's actually a state where you're awake but not there. Apparently I could have conversations and follow commands with people, but I simply don't remember doing so.

No pain at all, but they sent me home with some fun drugs. If they ache afterwards, I just took one pill. Despite the heavy drugs in my system, I was still somehow capable of programming on the same day as the surgery.

Yeah that IV sleep method is fucking fantastic. I have a deviated septum and when I went to get a rhinoplasty to fix it, they gave me a small pill to relax for a bit in the waiting room.

Then they said the Dr. was ready and they injected my arms with something. "Ok, this'll make your sleep." "Hm... I don't think it'll make me THAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaZzzzzz lol look at the ceiling woowowowowowoww......"

It was pretty unbelievable, I could feel myself getting hopped up on the juice.

Anyways, this fucking doctor fixed my nose and for a few months it was ok, but now it's deviated again. I'm getting another surgery done but this time in the states, no more surgeries here.

I had my wisdom teeth removed my senior year in high school. It was Thanksgiving week, Tuesday morning to be exact. They removed my 2 upper wisdom teeth. They use the anesthetic and put me to sleep. I remember counting down from 10 and then I barely remember walking from the car to my house. I woke up 2 hours later wide awake and feeling great! I had some trouble with the eating though. Even though I had no pain at all I still had to eat soft foods for a week and a half.

Yeah I got mine done years ago. Dry sockets suck - take it easy and don't start them bleeding!

I've had my one wisdom tooth for a while now. It came in with no problems, luckily I only have the one. I found that to be a bit odd, only having one wisdom tooth when four is the norm.

I had wisdom teeth on my bottom jaw- I had one removed, still have to get the other removed. I don't know the name of the method used, but the anesthetic was injected directly into the bone around the roots of the tooth. Other than a bit of shaking as the dentist loosened the tooth, I felt nothing, even afterwards.

Getting mine removed was a nightmare. My mouth was so small they couldn't get it open wide enough to work on it. They had to practically dislocate it to be able to work on it. Shit hurt so bad. Then I was awake the whole time. Ugh. Despite the laughing gas I was having a panic attack and hyperventilating. They numbed me, but I still felt every cut, them breaking my teeth with what looked like a nutcracker, them yanking all the pieces out, the blood squirting and hitting my tongue, the taste of said blood, etc. It was what nightmares were made of, but then again mine never came out and were compacted or whatever. Also, I was so impatient to play the trombone that I gave myself dry sockets. *shudders* Do what the dentist says: no smoking, sucking straws, or playing trombone. Also, I wound up swallowing my stitches. lol felt like a cat.

I had mine out last year (I believe I blogged about it somewhere...)... and while they WILL put you under for extraction in the US, it's generally up to the patient. I had only local anesthetic and it wasn't a problem.

I still have mine. Hurt like hell coming through, and I occasionally get an ache in it, but I just ignore it. LIKE A BOSS
