Hey guys,
My computer has been running along fine for a few months now until suddenly for some reason it goes into 'statrup repair' on random boots. Some days all is well and the computer boots just fine yet other times it goes into startup repair where nothing gets done. The weird thing is, if i immediately close out of the repair and reboot, it boots just fine again until the next random time.
I've tried updating all drivers etc along with safe mode and minimal services yet to no avail.
I have also run memtest and hard drive tests which uncover no errors.
The only two things i can see is two events in the eventlog as follows yet cant really figure out what they mean -
Fault bucket , type 0
Event Name: StartupRepairOnline

The description for Event ID 0 from source SignInAssistant cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
g_WLIDTimerQueue.Initialize started (16:58:152)
Any help or advice is appreciated. I really dont want to reinstall windows to fix the problem
Thanks in advance

The Startup Repair is usually launched when the computer fails to startup and load the OS, improperly shut down or an update causing it to restart but not be applied successfully. Since you're getting an error with the Sign In Assistant, I would remove it and try downloading the new installer and installing it again.

I know what you mean yet i believe that only installer for the Sign in Assistant is for Windows Live ID which is not currently installed so cant be causing the problem. Therefore i would think it must be the actual windows one with user logons etc. Is there any kind of repair of the assistant or a way to remove and reinstall?
Thanks in advance

In the Program and Features choose the option for Updates and see if anything is installed relating to a Sign In Assistant. See you have any Windows updates waiting to be installed and try installing them individually and see if one causes the problem. Since it seems random it might actually be when auto updates, if turned on, are trying to install them and then shutdown or reboot.

Is this a PC or laptop?
If it is a PC I would suspect capacitor plague. Anytime that there is random weirdness, shutdowns, reboots, or other oddities happening to the operating environment, I check the capacitors 1st.

how to disable Startup repair
Source Disable startup repair
I've been searching for this all day. I finally found the answer.
At the Command prompt enter the following:
bcdedit /set {default} recoveryenabled No
This will disable Startup Repair from automatically booting when there is a problem.
However, BEWARE.....
You'll have to get back into Windows as and Admin to re-enable it... just change the No to Yes.

Sorry about the late reply but i havent been around that computer all week. I've just disabled startup repair to see if it makes any distance. Of course if all hell breaks lose from doing that and it was actually doing something important then i'll have to reinstall the OS and think about faulty capacitors then. Fun Fun :-)
Thanks guys for your help
