I kinda have the saime problem...
How did I solve it?
Took my books and myself up the mountain, parked the car, got off and started studying sitted in a rock. Time flys and so your study. It worked for me.
(With no people around offcourse!)

Sadly no mountains here. I study when everyone's asleep so no one can disturb me or anything.

All good advice guys. The good part is I get to try em tonight for a mid-term exam tomorrow lol.

I tend to have the same issues, while engaging my brain in the act of coding or problem solving, I stay on task and don't wander. When I'm reading (to remember) and don't want my brain to wander or begin to fall asleep, I have to make it a point to engage myself in my reading. Try visualizing yourself applying what it is you're reading, make it engaging and you should be able to stay awake and be able to remember the scenario you created in your mind when it's time to regurgitate what you read.

I recommend staying away from other distractions like music or tv... They may help you stay awake, but they'll distract and pull you away from being able to put into practice what you're reading.

Good luck... it'll all be worth it.

I shit you not. This stuff was amazing when I was studying for finals and cramming. It will make your leg twitch and not stop moving. No sleep is possible.

It is a pre workout supplement to give you a boost before going to the gym which can increase duration of exercise by around 200% (at least for me) but it also works to reduce sleep and do not take within 6 hours of bed time. Your sleep will be shortened as well.

Have you ever thought of a polyphasic sleep schedule?

Typically I recommend that first of all you get regular good nights of sleep and then, as already recommended, B vitamin complex does wonders for keeping you alert.

I go with the metabolism approach. Anything to get your heart rate up and your metabolism cranking. Run around the block, do some starjumps, whatever, then have a granola bar and get back to it until you start to droop again.
Starting on energy drinks or any other special helpers is just going to lead to a hard to kick habit down the road.

Choscura
Great piece of advice! :)
I had the same problems... Also, sometimes even after a good night of sleep, I used to fall asleep in class in college... Embarrassing... drinking cool water saved me :)

I tried some of the suggestions last night. I started with eating a cracker and moving about every now and then. Took a break talked to my babes which got me awake again. I'll definitely get some B complex and start back up my nightly work out routines.
