This controller will add to the game experience not detract from!

That remains to be seen. More of the Wii games I've played, the controls actually lessened my experience. And my favorite games (mario kart, smash brothers, etc...) were better using a gamecube controller. And games like Twilight Princess would have been better IMO with one as well.

Frankly, I don't feel that wiggling a remote maps to swinging a sword any better than pressing a button. And considering that it's less accurate, and more likely to miss an input, that's why it takes away from the game.

The motion+ thing, the 1:1 measuring of movement is somewhat better, but only for very specific types of games.

Well I'm going to sit in the optimist camp and hope it will be a great gaming experience on release :) I like what I have seen already.

Nintendo was once the undisputed king of console gaming, and if done right, the new Wii U has the potential to put them there once again. Nintendo is in a great position as far as a the market goes. They have a system that already caters to the social/casual gamers with the Wii and all the different "get together with friends" games. Now it's just a matter of getting back the core gamers that were all too eager to give Nintendo their hard earned money in the early 90s, granted these core gamers are younger nowadays and much more agro when it comes to small issues, but I have no doubts that Nintendo has what it takes to make an amazing console that can fit the needs/wants of ALL gamers.

I'm ok with motion in games as long as I have the option to use a stick instead. I would agree that none of the motion controls out there right now are preferable to an analog stick in my opinion.

the thing about the wii was that, since most games were just multi-console ports, the motion controls were just tacked on. there was never a benefit to them.

the games that were wii exclusive, such as all of the nintendo stuff, tended to use the stuff more, but once you realized that you didn't need to swing a sword so much as wiggle it a little like you were done using the urinal, even that got old.

i expect the wii u to have a couple good games from nintendo, like usual, and then a bunch of shitty ports with something new on the screen from everyone else. just tacked on bullshit.

nintendo just doesn't get third party development. i don't think they ever will at this point.

Sloth hit on what I was saying pretty well. Most of the Wii games I played, the motion BS felt either like an afterthought ("shit, we'd better add in some motion control or Nintendo is going to be mad at us!") or useless ("why the hell do I have to shake the remote? There's at least four perfectly good buttons I could be using"). And the few games where it really worked for me were more like parlor games. "Ooh, Wii Sports. This'll be fun for the next 45 minutes, then never ever again."

The point is, show me a game where you really felt more immersed from motion control. I'm sure there are a few out there, but most of the ones I played had the opposite effect. The reason it was so incredibly popular was because it was a) the cheapest console, and B) impressive to people that rarely gamed ("omg the guy moves when I shake this stick how KEWL").

I'm actually optimistic about the Wii U as well (except the name, I still want to slap the guy that came up with Wii, and now Wii U...ugh. Say that out loud "wanna play Wii U?"). I just don't want to definitively say "the Wii U will revolutionize gaming".

Also, what's Japan's fascination with styluses? They said this will come with one. We've been working on making stylus-free touch interfaces for the last five years in the West.

Yes, in my experience all motion control does is remove me from the game by reminding me there's a controller in my hand.

I'm a LifeLong Nintendo fan (even have Nintendo related tatoos), always had a Nintendo Console and only bought Xbox / PS for specific titles that aren't available on Ninty machines (GTA / GT). I've recently got back onto my Wii after quite some time not even touching it (I blame WoW and EVE Online for sapping my time), and as great as it is playing these games with quirky controls, it really is a pain to scratch your nose and end up pointing at totally the wrong thing and do something stupid :/
A lot of games you can use the Classic Controller they released, but it just doesn't fit the hand quite like an Xbox / PS Controller. Add to that the usual cartoony graphics and you really do have to wonder what hardcore gamers even see in it.

Now we come to the Wii U, granted I havn't read much about it, but from what I have seen, it reminds me of the N64-DD. Theres nothing substantial in the Wii U to really warrent it being released as a full console. That being said, like the Wii, I'll end up at the front of Queue when it's released

:)

at this point i'm basically rooting for nintendo to fail enough that they pull a sega and get out of the hardware business. i just want to play zelda in hi-def on my xbox. i don't want any wiggling or moving or shaking or screens, i just want a good adventure game.

IS THAT SO FUCKING HARD NINTENDO.

Yeah both of those won't happen.

Nintendo owns the casual market, and this will not only get the hardcore Nintendo fans, but it will get those people who wouldn't buy an Xbox.
And Nintendo wouldn't sell out, and Zelda would die out.

And besides Xbox is ruining everything with the kinect, all I saw of them at E3 was "Kinect this! Kinect that!". Hell even Mass Effect three is getting ruined with the kinect. Yeay for the PC.

The Wii U will be a big hit like the Wii was, and actually has some really great release titles, its just Nintendo needs to keep up with the big hit titles. And they need to be dual purposed, run the games "Hardcore" gamers play, AND the kiddie games. Which with what they are saying should be true, but who knows. Nintendo knows its fans don't need uberomfg graphics, which means games are dark brown now-a-days, and want good gameplay. A solid Bioware title would completely sell the Wii U to me, but I will be getting it regardless.

Relevant: I just started playing Twilight Princess. Why the fuck do I have to get up and point the wiimote at the screen to boomerang some shit?

No, I have to, because my optimal seated position doesn't include a natural elevation of the wiimote to the receiver.

There is way too much discussion going on about a fail next gen novelty console.
