Windows 7 Pro 64 bit problem with keyboard in games only

Posted 07 June 2011 - 11:53 PM

I upgraded my system about a week ago from windows xp to windows 7 professional 64 bit. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until I reinstalled a couple of my games tonight. I installed and updated two different games. But, when I tried to play both, I experienced a very weird issue. First, I couldn't move at all using the WASD keys. Now I can move, but whatever key I press first causes me to constantly walk in that direction. It's like the key is being physically held down, but it's not. Both games I installed are first person shooters. I even plugged in a USB FPS keypad and I had the same problem with it. I did notice however that if I crouch and keep the crouch button held down, all of the WASD keys start working as long as I stay crouched. I have never had a problem like this and I'm really puzzled. My main system specs are as follows:

Intel e8400 cpu
6 GB ram
eVGA 9800 gtx+

Thanks :)

EDIT: I think I may have solved my problem. I went into msconfig and disabled part of my security suite on startup. We'll see how long it stays working.

Yep it did. Which I'm still using s PS/2 keyboard :/ which I thought might have been part of the problem. I also checked the driver for it in the device manager. It is an old driver, and when I tried to update it, Windows said it couldn't find a more up to date driver. A search on Logitech's website also turned up nothing.

So, with those dead ends, I tried a different approach. I went to my start up in msconfig and disabled a component of my security suite that is supposed to guard against key loggers. I restarted my computer, launched the game, and now everything works perfectly.

Good work fixing your issue :)

The reason I asked about whether Windows 7 had automatically installed your driver is that I have had an issue with older hardware when using Windows 7. It kept installing the wrong driver and essentially messing up my printer driver, I had to disable the automatic install and separately install the driver.

Thought you might have been in the same boat :)
