Association of Computing Machinery

Posted 08 June 2011 - 12:35 PM

Quick poll - ACM (Association of Computing Machinery), is anyone a member? Used any the benefits, found it better than X club and why, etc.

I am thinking about signing up, but I am unclear if it would be helpful or not.

Let me know.

I've considered it off and on. It had a large following at my University. I'd be interested in hearing others' experiences as well.

Ive gottenstuff from them and IEEE asking me to join. I dont know if it's cause Im awesome of they do that for everyone, probably the latter. Either way I've wanted to but dont know if it's worth the investment since I know IEEE you have to pay fees, not sure with ACM.

I'm a member of the ACM and IEEE chapter for my university, however, I don't really participate in any of the ACM and IEEE stuff off campus (although I could). I should also note this includes Computer Society.

Never heard of ACM. I'm a member if IEEE computer society and they send me a free magazine every month, plus free access to a metric shitload of online resources like tutorials and stuff, plus discounts on books and other publications like journals and crap, not to mention the student subscription to MSDN, that is really sweet.

ACM is worth it when you're a student because (at least when I was a member) you got access to a Safari books online.

I was a member while I was a student, mostly because of the local chapter. We had a sweet club room that we could use to study and hang out in. I practically lived there my senior year.

I never got around to renewing my membership when I graduated, I guess I never really saw it as worth the expense.
