Gonna buy a Mac

Posted 08 February 2007 - 03:46 PM

Got some $$$ and the Ipod says it wants a mac to sink up with.
so I am probally going to get one of them iMac jobs.

This is the one Im probally gonna get

2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512
160GB Serial ATA drive
SuperDrive 8X (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Keyboard & Mighty Mouse + Mac OS X - U.S. English
ATI Radeon X1600 128MB SDRAM
17-inch widescreen LCD
AirPort Extreme
Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
Final Cut Express HD

question 1 am I gonna have to wipe my ipod to sink up with it? I heard there are some issues back when there were specific windows ipods and mac ipods.

Any pitfalls with boot camp I need to know about.

(I may install it just to try it but I still have 2 decent windows based PC's in the house)

basically im gonna use it mostly for audio and video editing.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I don`t think that iTunes supports two way syncs. Be safe and back up before you plug it up for the first time. Otherwise, the rig looks greato. If only I was rich enough to buy a mac.....

you may want more ram for video editing, I'd spring for 2 gigs.

Nice!

I know my iPod had a fit when I tried putting it on my Mini after it was on my PC.

I would suggest backing everything up.

I've hooked my iPod up to both Windows and Apple computers. The main problem is that an iPod formatted on a Windows computer cannot have its frimware updated from a Mac. An iPod formatted on a Mac cannot be read by a Windows computer. Macs don't handle updating iPods with FAT, and Windows computers can't read HFS. I've never had my iPod freak out and do crazy stuff, but you might have some minor issues.

I recently purchased a MacBook and I was having similar issues with my ipod. I have all my music stored on a PC and I want to move them to my MacBook. I created a backup but it seems and tried to run the backup on my mb with no success.

I bought a MacBook over the past holiday season and found iTunes (obviously) works better for me on the MacBook compared to my Toshiba (pretty close in specs). Logic would tell me that the iPod, iTunes, and OSX would work better together then Windows and what not.

As far as Boot Camp is still in Beta (at least the last time I tried it), and I have a lot of issues with Vista. According to Apple they will have a released version called Parallel that will work with Vista in OSX Leopard.

Thorian, what do you think of OSX and the file management, application installing, and other features of OSX? I have found something strange since I have been a Windows user for over 10 years. Some of the utilities are cool, but I've found my hard drive space gets eaten up faster, or at least it seems that way.

well it arrived yesterday and sad to say I havent had the chance to take it out of the box yet. I know I know what the hell is the Tech team member doing with some new HW new in the box and not on his desk with the rest of the other tech crap.

The answer is simple Im changing what room is my home office to facilitate the sat dish and I need to move furnanture and 2 heavy as hell steelcase desks.

But dont fret I will have this up and running and will be reviewing it in my dev blog right here on DIC. I got some projects in coming up that will rock your socks off. One I need to find a DV camera as it will involve ***SUPPRESSED*** and several diffrent ***SUPPRESSED THAT TOO*** that can only be captured in full motion instead of stills.

That's funny.

I bought my MacBook back in early December and my wife said it was a X-Mas present, so I had to wait until X-Mas morning to open it up. It drove me crazy! :)

I look forward to your review.

I love mine... except for use at Berklee. I love Garageband, but I know Acid a bit better. APPLE is stable and the pod will love it, mine does, anyway.

I got a program called mac drive that lets you use Mac formatted discs on your PC. Hope you're loving your mac. Got a macbook a few months ago and I can't imagine using anything else... well... maybe I can live with a macbook pro. harhar.
