Converting VB.Net game into Java

Posted 29 June 2011 - 06:56 PM

So I have been working on a game for sometime now, it's a throw back to Dragon Warrior on the NES. I'm currently planning on developing it for the Android Marketplace, and from the looks of the Android SDK book I have it seems Java is best to know when working with the SDK. What would be the best course of action to take? I have already given a couple people from another forum I frequent the Installer and they can play it on PC (What I have done so far anyways). Do I need to code it in Java, or is the Android SDK completely different? Do I need anything else development wise? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to recode the whole thing in Java only to find out I have to recode it again.
:hang:

Android is a sub-set of Java. The SDK can be download fom here

Moved to Android.

The syntax is all Java. The Android SDK just provides a different set of libraries for you to use. If you're comfortable with vanilla Java, Android is pretty simple to pick up. We do have the Android tutorials section on DIC which you may find helpful as well.

Thanks for the direction, if anyone is interested in checking out what I have so far game wise...The current graphics are directly ripped from Dragon Warrior but I have a sprite guy who made new world map tiles. Now it's just making a new world map and programming the locations that can and can't be walked on. (SO TEDIOUS)

Speaking of that, is there an easier way to program what 32x32 squares can and can't be moved to? Currently I am using Select statements.

Better explained. The term "subset" was badly choosen.
Subset of Java meaning same syntax, same operators, same inheritance
but a different branch as the API is not the same beside the fact that all classes also dervive from object
