Can I mix Sata and IDE in a RAID 5 configuration?

Posted 20 July 2011 - 08:44 AM

I have 8 IDE hard disks, for which the machine went down. I have a machine that has 6 Sata ports and 1 IDE port. Could I use IDE to Sata converters to hook 6 drives up and use the IDE port to hook up the other two in order to use recovery software to copy the data to an external drive?

Is this on another RAID controller? If you are mixing and matching ports, likely not.

You will need to get the drives on a RAID controller, and have RAID software/BIOS that will allow you to import the current configuration for the drive.

If this fails, you may wish to consult a magnetic recovery company.
