Isn't there any live-CD version that uses the hard-disk for saving, creating and managing files so I could compile and run C programs under UNIX? I need it to practice for school
Not enough space o money to install LINUX !

I asked everywhere and couldn't get any bright ideas how to find a cheap-space UNIX system because I ain't got the money and the time to switch to another bigger hard-drive...

You could try Ubuntu.
I had a look at that the other day and that had a live version if you boot from CD.

With the exception of a small partition on my laptop for gaming, all of my machines are Linux(which terminal wise uses about 90% of the same shell commands).
I agree Ubuntu would be your best bet for a live CD. You can get a bunch for free and they have both the live CD and the installation disk in both CDs so you just need to boot into it.
Otherwise I'd say try and get a cheap box on Ebay. That's what I do for networking expiraments.

knoppix is a great live-cd linux.
it's free (of course) and is reasonably compliant with all mice and keyboards, including wireless. It will run on a boot, or with a program such as virtual PC. I use it for all of my Linux requirement testing in school these days.
One thing to note with live cd, is that you will have to mount your hard drive each time, if you want to write files to it, the cd should automatically deny this action. It will be a simple 1 liner in prompt of your choice, but is required.

If you boot up th Knoppix disk, somewhere in the menu is an option to make a persistent disk image, and you could try installing it onto a flash drive. That would allow you to write to the disk. You'll have to use a computer that supports booting from USB though.

Another option is, if you have enough unused disk space, burn yourself a copy of GParted and resize your partitions. I actually had to do this with a laptop I wanted to put Debian on and keep a small amount of Windows for playing Ragnarok Online. It's actually worked out quite well, although dual booting can be a pain sometimes.

there is a program called OS loader which can solve that problem, it is independent of the OS's involved. I used it when i was booting Vista, XP and Ubuntu for a while. Just be sure it's installed on Vista (if you have it), that OS will likely try to control the whole show. It also has a new form of bootloader, thus it's dominance is increase, lol

I prefer to use Knoppix and save any data onto a flash drive.
