Reporting Services Grouping

Posted 03 August 2011 - 04:24 AM

Hi all,

I am working with visual studio 2010's reporting services and am having trouble grouping the data in my report. Working on a drill down report, I have a list of inventory Codes with summaries of dept information, I have built a toggle function so that when the "+" sign next to an inventory code is pressed details about that inventory code's usage transactions appear below the clicked inventory code. I'm having a problem grouping the data in the report within reporting services, the sql query that is associated with this report is correct. For a particular inventory code the sql output looks like (see below): As you can see the top line is the summary line and the bottom 2 are the details about the particular inventory codes.

890004 NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL CarVac 59070.00 12404.7000
890004 153616 F ARCF 2011-04-26 335.00 70.3500 NULL NULL NULL
890004 214449 F VIMB 2011-03-11 1070.00 224.7000 NULL NULL NULL

When I loaded the query into reporting services I was having trouble grouping the data to match the SQL output above. First I tried to set up a parent row group based on inventory code with the detailed ID (2nd column) being toggled on the parent group. In this case the inventory codes appear correct (1 listed inventory code per row), however when I hit the "+" next to the inventory code parent group, none of the details pop up below--a blank row appears if any "+" sign is hit. Next, I tried making the detailed ID a child of the inventory code, this caused each inventory code to appear multiple times (the number of child ID's). I've been fiddling with this problem for a few hours now, and was wondering if anyone can help me group my report data in a way that matches the sql query output above.

Again, the desired output for the report would resemble:

+890004 NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL CarVac 59070.00 12404.7000
(If the plus sign--row toggle button--is hit the details would pop up below--note that I do not want inventory code listed in the details view):

153616 F ARCF 2011-04-26 335.00 70.3500 NULL NULL NULL
214449 F VIMB 2011-03-11 1070.00 224.7000 NULL NULL NULL

Thanks for the help in advance!

Creating the report with the report wizard and setting up the initial grouping on inventory code started me off on the right foot and then allowed me to finish this project
