Grazely Invites available
Posted 05 August 2011 - 01:14 PM
I am a long time user of the bookmarking site Delicious. I have had all of my bookmarks stored up on there for quite some time and have loved the service.
Earlier this year the owners of the Delicious website, Yahoo!, in their typical Yahoo! fashion, decided that they had gotten all they needed from the service and chose to offload it. Even going as far as saying they would simply shut it down if a buyer wasn't found for it. The nice thing is that they found a buyer in the two people who co-founded YouTube. Unfortunately, nobody knows what changes they have planned for the site, but time will tell.
Now, being someone who loved the site I was quite worried about the state of all of my ~4700 bookmarks and began the arduous hunt for another site. I looked at a few and found that too many of the sites were now social bookmarking sites, taking bookmarking into the social realm, and to places that I just didn't see the need to go with that type of site.
After a bit of looking I stumbled onto Grazely. The site was simple and yet stored my bookmarks. It was also new enough where I could help influence its direction by making suggestions for improvements and finding bugs. Its always fun when you are in at that level.
The site was going well for a couple months and then the owners shut the doors to redesign it completely, making it more extensible and able to grow with the times. The site has relaunched and is currently in Beta (by invitation only).
If you are looking for a bookmarking site or would like to try it out, please private message me your email address and I will get you an invite. I don't have tons, but I can most likely get more. If I run out I will let you know but will get one to you when I get more invites.
Regards,
Jeff

Because you can't sync your bookmarks across machines if you only store them on one machine.
EDIT: Added a quote for context since Lemur threw a message in before me.

Well, that's the usefulness of an online bookmarking service. If you don't think you need it, that's your choice. I am not pushing this on anyone or looking for opinion's on why they are good or bad. I just have invites available for those interested.

"our site has Encryption and Groups that you can share. That's the difference in other bookmarking apps and browsers bookmarking."

I think those websites are still in existence because of inertia from it's users to manually switch over to the default browser system.
Firefox syncs everything up for me, so whether I'm at work or at home I have the same browsing experience.

Um, yeah, which makes them no different from any other syncing service. Data is stored on the server and synced online. Same thing, just official.

Tools->Set Up Sync->(connect or create account)
pretty simple stuff. no need to join a service you already have.
either way i still see little point in using either sync service.
