Laptop external monitor problem

Posted 10 September 2011 - 10:19 AM

Purchased a new monitor for my laptop yesterday. I wish to run dual screens with the laptop screen. I have the monitor plugged in and when I go to the display monitor screen only the external shows up and theirs no dual monitor option. When I have monitor plugged in it just goes to sleep and the laptop works normally. The software for the monitor said it correctly installed. Any ideas?

In your monitor's properties - do you see a monitor with a #1 and a disabled one with a #2? If so grab the #2 and drag is on to #1... it should prompt you if you want to enable that second monitor.

Looking at it closer I realized changing the resolution of what is labeled as the external monitor changes the laptop's screen. No1 has any ideas on how to get the laptops screen detected?

Win 7, watched the video. The problem is only one monitor appears in the set up screen, the external one. How ever the only monitor displaying is the laptop screen.

Then something is failing because windows 7 is about the easiest to make dual monitors with a laptop.. As highlighted by microsoft.

I got no idea on what laptop it is, what you are seeing in the display properties, etc. Screen shot and some info might help.
