He may have died young but he's lived more than most of us will.

Aint that the truth. Still, cancer at 52 dead at 56... makes a 45 year old such as myself nervous. It makes one think:
When a super rich guy that can afford the best food, health care, personal trainers, in-home health care, freedom to take time off work to dedicate just to living, and just about anything else... What hope does the average schmuck like me have?
Combine that with any history of cancer in one's family and I start re-thinking the logic of a new RV loan.

That just shows how death can come to anyone. You can't avoid death forever, its just that better doctors/treatment prolong the time you have left.
This is so morbid but its a good life lesson.

My local news says Jobs is the Edison/Einstein of this generation. Eh, don't think that's true. Did he make world changing inventions? Light bulb?
Imagine at first there was darkness, then there was light!
Imagine at first there was buttons, then there was none?

Definitely not the Einstein. Not to take anything away from him by saying it, but what he did was a totally different thing: he didn't make ideas, he was able to find good ideas, and he was able to find people who would have ideas and to make them have good ideas, and he was able to make those ideas into good designs. He was really about marketing and packaging, not originality, and he was very good at those things.
Edison is a little more plausible. I believe that Apple's idea mills might be compared to Edison's lab, where you have a lot of smart people working on implementing the ideas of one central figure.
In that light, he might be considered the Rembrandt of his time, but never the Picasso.

your local news, like all local news, appears to be retarded.

But actually it came from foreign news. Still, if it is deemed to be newsworthy by tv stations here, guess you're right. Local news is retarded news.

The dude was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004. That's not one you usually shake off. There's a five year max on it. I know more about this one than I'd like, it got my dad; less than a year and they caught it "early."
That he held on this long is impressive. People were willing to believe that if anyone could miraculously survive such a health threat, it would be Steve. And he did carry on spectacularly. No one reading this will forget him.

Agreed. Jobs lived a LONG time for someone with pancreatic cancer. My dad died of it last October after being diagnosed only 5 months prior. It always saddens me when I hear of someone (anyone) else dying of cancer. Seems like we should have a cure by now.
Fair winds and following seas, Steve.

The problem is that "the cure for cancer" is not only a really general term, it also sounds like "the cure for death".

Richard Stallman on the death of Steve Jobs:

Quote
Steve Jobs, the pioneer of the computer as a jail made cool, designed to sever fools from their freedom, has died.
As Chicago Mayor Harold Washington said of the corrupt former Mayor Daley, "I'm not glad he's dead, but I'm glad he's gone." Nobody deserves to have to die - not Jobs, not Mr. Bill, not even people guilty of bigger evils than theirs. But we all deserve the end of Jobs' malign influence on people's computing.
Unfortunately, that influence continues despite his absence. We can only hope his successors, as they attempt to carry on his legacy, will be less effective.

I like a lot of what Stallman's done for computing, but this is just uncalled for.
All I can say when I see something like this, is I hope that the world is kinder to him and to his family tomorrow than he's been today.

I expect decent behavior. I don't care who you are, if you're a human being you have a duty to be a decent person. Stallman should be ashamed of himself.
