Fan on ATI Radeon 9600 pro

Posted 27 March 2007 - 11:42 AM

Hello :)

I'm not a hardware expert, in fact I'm very far from that, so I have a question for you smart people. As the title says my question is: is it possible to remove fan from graphic card? It's too freacking loud and it's really not spining properly. I tried cleaning it, but it's the same.

Can you advise me please?

Thank you

physically it can be removed, but thsi is not advised as it's purpose is to keep the memory and processor of the video card from over heating, and it will also improve performance. If it's making that much noise i would contact ATI, or whatever they are called now about it. You may be in the market for a new graphics card...

*nods* I see. So eventhough the fan itself is small? Is there a possability that chip on graphic gard burns? I'm interested because I won't be buying new computer parts for some time and here in Croatia "support" of ANY kind simply doesn't exist! We don't have experts for stuff, especially not for techincal stuff.

You may want to look into an after market VGA cooler kit. If the fan is screwed on with thermal grease the procedure is simple just unscrew the heat sink assembly and wipe off the grease. Apply new thermal grease and install the new heat sink fan according to the directions.

If they use a thermal adhesive then things get a bit tricky because you have to carefully remove the heat sink with out ripping the GPU off of the card.

If your card is over heating you may be able to position a fan next to it that will exhaust the heat via a PCI slot next to your VGA card.

Trust me take it from a person who has removed the Fan from his Video Card. Dont Do It. Unless you can buy another, that isn't loud.
