I think it will be helpful to provide an option for the thread starter (e.g. in forums for programming help) to mark the thread as solved. Then there would be a tick (✓) on the forum legend to indicate that the topic is solved. It will be easier to know which programming problems have been solved and which ones are unsolved and need to be addressed.

At this point, I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen any time soon. There's a laundry list of issues that already have priority. Just upvote the posts that are helpful, and leave a comment that says something like "thanks, this is how I solved my problem" or "thanks, that solved it."

The original poster can always edit the title to insert [solved] in the front of it.

That was the point I was trying to make with the link to the other thread where the title was marked [solved]

There is a time limit after which the poster can no more edit the post and its title.
