What have you got so far? What platform would you like it for?

Just start with it and show it here, we are there to help you for sure. :)

well you can have catagories of editors...
Line Editors - where minimum unit of editing is one line.
Word Editors - minimum unit of editing is one word.
character Editors - minimum unit of editing is one character.

You can have word processors also [think of MS Word Or OpenOffice Writer ]. and don't get worried they are just examples, you need not to go into such a depth :D .

considering that you want to make a char editor. I will suggest you to start with the basic but most important functionalities which are core part of editor.

Inserting / deletion / overwriting of a charater.

and you need to think about what functionalities you are going to give.
if you use word wrap [like wordpad] then you need to take care while doing above things. If you go by notepad way then you need to take care of scroll bars. etc. etc.

so make a design of what you want to do in your editor first and then start for algorithms, finally you will be able to make a bug free code.

hope you got my point. I think I can help you as I did a word processor [providing many functionalities of MS Word] in DOS based C. :)

I hope this will help you.
