depending on whether you wanna buy a book, I would say, start on the internet (it's free, but books are good aggregated sources of information). Here is some good basics:
should get you started.
should get you started.

He gave you links, Wikipedia is surprisingly well documented in an easy to read way. When you have read them, try googling to find more information about the parts you are interested in. There are thousands of whitepapers, essays and the like... you are not going to be able to read them all so just make a path through some of them, it is up to you which ones!

In order to succeed in the Comp Sci market you have to develop a lot of self reliance and ability to look up resources on your own. This isn't to say that you should never ask questions, merely to follow the standard that you should always google things first.
You'll find that you learn far more when you only resort to asking questions as a last resort. In some cases though, this can be an extremely bad idea, such as in a corporate environment, but when learning you need to get your hands dirty in any way possible. The more errors and quirks you come across learning the less you'll have issues with them later on.

CBT Nuggets ICND 1 & 2 really good for networking classes..
study with them and was way ahead of the rest of the class when it came to networking.
