Hi everyone :D

Posted 12 January 2012 - 02:26 PM

Hi to everyone out there, and a warm welcome from rainy old Britain. I have lurked on this site for the best part of 1/2 a year now and never got round to making an account, since all the question I had at that point in learning C# were so basic they had already been answered. However now I feel that I should give what little I can back to the community that helped me so much in those first steps, without even realising it.

Moving on from my motives, I enjoy programming (obviously) as a hobby since I haven't left school yet (final year of GCSE's). Surprisingly, I have always been good at computers, I'm taking the computing GCSE as an extra (no lessons) and getting an A with little effort. I also enjoy sports, mainly rugby since it's the only real man's sport offered near to where I live, but I'll play whatever other people are playing, be it football, basketball or whatever.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Hi.

I hope you enjoy it here and I'm sure your contributions will be appreciated no matter what the size.

May I ask you what part of rainy Britain you are from?
As I am also from Britain and currently live in Nottinghamshire, also congrats on currently working at an A grade!

Thanks Cocker, I come from Hertfordshire (Hitchin to be precise). You probably won't have heard of us since it's some tiny town sandwiched by Stevenage, Luton and Letchworth. We never get anything but rain :(.

I haven't been there but I'm sure I've heard of it from somewhere...

As for the rain that seems to be the case everywhere in the UK!! :)

The rains only in England, it's all about the wind at the moment in Scotland. Also, you probably heard about us from the murder of a blind man by a chav who used to go to my school. Fun fact right there.

Heh I'm sure that wasn't it but interesting none the less.

Have you heard of Mansfield as that's where I'm from.

Are you interested in any more programming languages?

We have a really bad Physics teacher called Mr. Mansfield :D, but I digress.

My main preference is C# however I delve into HTML and PHP occasionally, I did part of the school website at one point and have done some basic websites for mates who want photography/band/gaming clan sites. Nothing amazing though.

How about you? Which language/area do you like?

Well I wouldn't say I'm excellent in any language currently but I feel I'm getting better.

The main languages I use are C++, Java and SQL, I suppose I prefer C++ and Java more as I find them more challenging.

However I have also used VB6 *shudders* first language I learnt, VB.net and a little C#.

As for web languages:
HTML, HTML 5, PHP, Javascript + JQuery, Html, Ajax, ASP, ASP.Net.

I've only really done that much of a spread of languages due to uni teaching us the basics in a variety of languages.

I used to have a large spread of languages (SQL, JQuery, C++, C) but I concentrated on a few, since I realised that I could not feasibly program
in 6 or so languages and be good at it. So I just forgot all the ones that I didn't want to continue and so moved on.

Although I may pick up either C or C++ again in the future depending on how various studies go.
