Megaupload down, 999 more file sharing websites on the wall..
So not only does this barely dent actual piracy, but it catches backlash from various hacker groups. You know how war goes, if it goes too long, everyone loses.

And from the rubble, emerges http://www.anonyupload.com an adfree website which will allow the storage of digital materials online. I like how paypal has already responded to their presence.
Obviously we won't know whether this is a scam or not until Friday, but I'm hopeful. It's important to have websites that allow easy uploads across the tor network (many lockers are NOT tor friendly).

Paypal has closed our account.
So, we will open Friday, because without money, we can't buy servers, bandwith. Trust me, we are not trying to SCAM people. Thank you ! We are setting up servers.
Each user gets a FTPs access, which can be used to safely transfer files.
For your safety, our infrastructure will be out of the U.S jurisdiction ( RU,UKR .. ).

The funny thing is, there's tons of practical, legit uses behind a free FTP hosting service that doesn't explode your window with ADs (which is what this pretty much is). So why did PayPal shut down their account again?

It's not realy as simple as that. See, MegaUpload insentivized people sharing popular files, then ignored take down notices. So for example, say I posted Harry Potter and a million people downloaded it, they would pay me for uploading it. Then the MPAA sends a take down notice and they don't respond. From what i've heard, they had it coming. If they a) didn't pay people for posting popular content
responded to take down notices quickly, they wouldn't have been where they are now.
To use your analogy, its more like renting out a postal box for drug sales, but then taking a cut of all drug sales that go through that postal box.

That's 100% not true. I've heard from many different sources that Megaupload had the best response time to take down notices.

Because it's probably risky for them, legally speaking, to do business with organizations that could be branded as pirates.
