How does ram get damaged?

Posted 11 April 2007 - 03:38 AM

Hi
My computer problems I had came down to damaged ram, I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my pc and I put my fedora cd in and started memtest86 , I think it's version 1.25. It showed thousands upon thousands of errors. Could someone please tell how ram can get so many errors.

Things can just fail over time. Perhaps one of the millions of transistors went out one of the microchips.

too much voltage/current, Heat, ESD, Vibration, & humidity can all cause failures if given enough time.

When you think of how many billions of electrical components that can go wrong at any given time rendering the computer dead and that they all have to work 100% it is a wonder they even turn on at all.

Man, even touching them is bad. I killed a 1GB stick with static electricity. One minute it's working the next, its gone.
