rate this pc for me

Posted 16 April 2007 - 07:04 PM

http://www.tigerdire...u=A455-2129%20L

can yall check this out for me and make sure it will live up to what i want:

obviously to be not obsolete in a year,
will be heavily used for media and storage,
going to add in a 7900 or 8800 (somewhere in that range) geforce vid card for hd quality, so if that is compatible,

good memory, i don't know squat about memory,
i realize there isn't alot in there, but as long as i can upgrade it with good stuff,

and how is the processor?
good stuff?

thanks.

if not a real good pc.

im looking at just buying this now :
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819103778

i don;t need cutting edge,
but would like this to be very powerful.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

relative to what you do, it shouldn't be obsolete in a year unless you're playing the most modern games where your video card is more of a player. regardless of that, the only thing i'd need is a memory upgrade after I get that, if I'm running XP, 1gb ram has suited me for the last 6 years on three different computers and i've never needed more. however on vista, my friend has needed two to have similar performance in certain programs. i'd say it's a good buy and a great deal, because like I say it has everything i look for in a computer for upgradeable potential. getter done

since you just added the newegg one as A DOUBLE POST!@!!! i'd say that processor in terms of a relative increase in performance is not needed comparing it to what the barebone kit already has

with 450W you shouldn't be too worried, you'll want the obvious, a heatsink for your processor and video card, a fan unit under your power supply and case fans. you won't have to thermal glue much, and the most significant heat changes i see in systems is when i install triplet exhaust systems in a front bay. the ones out nowadays are 100% silent, i'm also deaf as hell so i'm probably wrong but i'm a freak about heat short of a system of water cooling so whatever works right

Take careful notice that the processor you are buying is a socket AM2 processor and that the Mobo is a socket 939, im not sure if its this way for all mobo's but i had to return mine in order to get a socket AM2 processor

nice deal...upgrade the ram definatly. 1 - 2gb shouldnt run that much

I think he's talking about Silver Compound between the CPU and Heatsink, and if that's what you referring to Tyler, if you bought that RETAIL (retail being the keyword there) CPU, it will come with a certified fan and enough thermal compound for 1 shot at putting it on, with today's CPUs it's much easier to install into the mobo so you should be good to go.

The specs looks awesome, I would think about a SATA HDD in the future, I'm not sure if that was mentioned but there is a noticeable signifigant differnce between SATA and EIDE HDD's in terms of performance... The mobo you got looks to support it so your good there too.

In terms of memory, Ultra is actually a company that has really been hitting the scene lately with affordable memory solutions, I have used their memory twice now and haven't had any issues.

Nice man.

i knew you would hump the sata shit so i left it up for you because you get really kinky about it for some reason. and yeah i just realized what he was talking about, i've used thermal glue for other reasons

im stealing these 2 drives out of the computer im currently on already.

the sata though is a 400 gigger so i use her mostly for backups/media storage, kinda like having my windows install on a small one where i dont store anything so i can erase it really nicely.

Looks like a pretty smokin' setup ... Looking at the pics though, the only thing that would concern me is that case. It looks like that rear panel would need to be modified a bit to accommodate that motherboard. Look at how the ports are arranged vs. the holes/perfs on the back of the case.

yep if you are buying that barebone pc that comes with a 3800+ and you use the 3800+ you are fine.

If you buy that other processor and expect it to work you will be dissappointed when you have to buy a new motherboard and possibly diffrent ram

I have always only bought nVidia Chipset baised motherboards so I cannot comment on the SiS Chipset

I am supprised they only have 2 SATA ports on that thing. 4 seems to be standard and i have had one motherboard with 8 (then again it supported 2 raid 5's)

so frys actually did a post test, assembled the processor, mobo and fan for me for a total of $8.95.
not a bad deal.

nonetheless,
i bring it home and the motherboard is not at all meant for this case,
or the other way around,
im not seeing any real way to line this up to make it work.
do i just take a saw to it?
