A ton of new work tacked onto a project with little initial input.. shifting requirements... and generally trying to not be a giant ball of stress for non-work things.

Helping form a possible new dev team with a few people I know from the XNA community. This could get interesting.

@kilorn - please copy and paste the usual 'post a job' template from one of the two post wonders regarding forming a game programming team.

Just remember that good game developers are happy to work for free if you tell them that the game is going to be awesome.
(Let's just follow that logic through: since better developers means more awesome games, and the more awesome the game, the less you need to pay the developers, we can deduce that the more a developer is paid, the crappier they are - right?)

What happens to that math when you start CHARGING the developers to make the games? I mean their income doesn't just flat line at $0 it breaks on through to the other side in negative land!

We've got a first run of a product, so today I am doing more supervisory crap, making sure that the first run scans at all the right processes, collects genealogy correctly, goes through testing equipment right. However, until the process engineers start building the board, I have a lot of nothing to do.

My god, think of the possibilities. What kind of a game could you make if you charged the developers admission? Modi, you're brilliant!
Would you charge them by the line, or by the feature, or by the hour?

That might take a few years of testing. I'll start the beta site up this weekend. "Joining this game development project requires a credit card for monthly dues. This is done to ensure the game you are helping to write becomes a quadruple-A rated one. You are able to go above and beyond the normal level of skill enhancement by donating to skyrocket your programming skills with flare! Thank you for joining the team!".
My thought is start with a base line monthly fee. Then allow the volunteers to donate MORE on top of that. You know - go the extra distance beyond the thirteen pieces of flare. After collecting large sums of.. er.. scientific data on this pay structure subsequent releases would allow a developer to structure their own extra pay - be it an hourly rate they set, a feature checkin, or logged hours. Maybe micro-transactions per click or every sixth 'f' key typed.

I'm having wonderful amounts of fun with my IT support job at the university, especially since our tool for users to change their passwords (and subsequently get into any of their accounts) is currently down.
Did I mention that people are freaking out a bit because they're all trying to get into the university and check financial aid and enroll for classes, etc. right now? Yeah. And NetOps isn't entirely sure what the issue is right now.
It's going to be a 'fun' shift today.
