I am looking at new PC's and finding that the ones that have everything I want also have a lot of stuff I dont care about making them expensive. I found out it would be cheaper to build my own. I am also a computer science major and would love the experience. So all in all I am ready to start. how would I go about how to build a PC from scratch??

First thing is to spec out the motherboard, cpu, & memory (RAM). These three items must be compatible. Everything else will use the bus on the motherboard.

I agree with the above post, go for those 3 components.
Rememeber you build a computer to your specification ie what are you going to do on it, game (graphics card + cpu), browsing only (do that on anything), dual monitors, (graphics), want speed?? SDD + ram + cpu
Best to have a think about what you want the pc for, get a good motherboard and build from there. Remember those componets will get hot if they aint cooled correctly (case + thermal paste)

Well, Modi123 will just have to track down clyde1993 and find out if he ever built his PC.

I would generally agree with the above 3 (motherboard, CPU ,and RAM), however, I would throw a high end graphics card at the top of the list as a lot more software will rollover from RAM to the Video RAM. Decide on your graphics card and then go to RAM, CPU and motherboard in that order. If your VRAM and system RAM are up there, you won't have software become near as CPU dependent.
