Can You Answer A Couple Questions About Internet Connections?
Posted 08 March 2012 - 04:02 PM
Hello. I've been having a LOT of problems with my internet on my desktop in my room. My router is in the kitchen. I use Google Chrome and have Charter. I've been looking at task manager and my link speed is usually exactly 54mbps, but occasionally drops below that, but never lower than 11mbps. My network utilization is usually around 1%, but it will sometimes randomly drop to 0%. I'll be in the middle of streaming a movie on Netflix or playing runescape with 2% network utilization and it will just become 0% and my movie will stop buffering or runescape will freeze. My link speed stays at 54mbps and my network connection will have three bars(which is what I usually have). My dad got a new router, but that didn't seem to help too much. I'm not really sure what's wrong. My laptop never does that in my room so I don't think it has anything to do with distance or interference. Any idea what's wrong? Do I need to get a new network card or something? Thanks...

I'll move that for you to the actual networking area.

You may try reorienting your desktop so the antenna has a more direct "line of sight" to your router. Try to get as few obstructions as possible between your router and the antenna of the wifi card.
