Just got that computer I told you I was gonna buy up and running.
set it all up.
everything is bolted down tight, not running alot on it,
just cd drive, graphics card and an ide hd.
installed ubuntu, but it took a couple tries,
because if you so much as plug in a usb port,
or accidentally hit it when you turn your chair it restarts itself.
why would it do this .
power not connected well?
is it too low on its mount and hitting the case?
its annoying. my desk is metal and even adding weight to the desk shifts it enough the computer restarts.

yeah i actually just took the whole thing apart and remounted everything.
its properly grounded.
now , whenever it does its weird shutdown,
when it reboots i get an error from the mobo,
it says overclocking failed go to setup and change settings.
i didn't over clock it myself,
did i buy an overclocked system? i've heard some manufacturers like to sell it overclocked so they can say its a higher speed.
would a failed overclocking do that?
it just gets too hot and shuts itself off.
if i leave it off it seems to be able to go longer,
as opposed to rebooting right after it fails,
it fails agian.

Do you have temp sensors you should check those, some mobos will shutdown if they overhead

i would definitely try moving the computer into a well ventalated area, as opposed to, say, closed in a cabinet, and make sure all the slot covers are attached. also, you might want to get a different cooling system.
btw, what kind of processor is it?

brand new amd.
sometimes its fine and will run for hours.
then it will do it once,
and after reboot.
last no more than 4 or 5 minutes.
so i give it half an hour off and its better.
stupid question: is the fan supposed to blow onto the processor or away, fry's set it up and i want to make sure they did it right

usually it blows down over the heat sink unless you got a heat pipe then it usually sucks air through the heat pipe

okay, im seriously just completely dumbfounded.
took everything apart.
mounted it as solidly as i can mount anything.
secured every nut bolt and wire
everything is secure.
put the cover on even.
put it up onto my desk , on solid glass,
figuring maybe it doesn't like being on the floor.
ANYTHING moves it it turns off.
found this out by dropping a bag of sunflower seeds on the other side of the desk and the computer turned off.
playing a game and pressed the spacebar too hard and it shut off.
if i put any kind of pressure onto the top of the case it goes off too.
i mean, im at a complete loss.
what are my possibilites... so far im thinking
a)something seriously not connected right in the psu
the power cable to the case is just not right and banging anything just sets it off.
eEDIT L::::
making additions.
after using it for the majority of the night,
this has happened twice.
running fine. but using a decent amount of computing power. i think once i was watching a movie and the other copying or watching a dvd.
ANYWAYS, it just shuts down. great. this time i didn't even bump it. So then i reboot and it dies before even getting back to ubuntu. tries itself agian, and shuts itself completely off. that has to be the mobo doing some shutdown right?
but that just wouldn't make sense to me, because i know for a fact that some times it is the bump that shuts it down, and sometimes its just random
big pain in the ass right here.

My money is on the motherboard. You've probably got a loose component (like a resistor or something). Sometimes even the expansion from heating up is enough to break a connection. Then, as the component cools, it comes back into place. .. Obviously, there are tons of other possibilities, but that's my theory. And I'm willing to bet that a replacement motherboard will correct the issue.

i turned the power supply off with the intention of breaking the computer down again,
but got called into work,
when i came home, i turned it on
and since then it hasn't crashed, its been about a week i'm guessing.
WHO KNOWS.
