Vertical PCI cards?

Posted 16 March 2002 - 01:20 PM

I want to build a thin case, but, in order to accomplish this, I need to seperatly mount my AGP and PCI cards so they are vertical inside the case.

I supposed I could do this if there was some sort of PCI slot 'extention cord' that was a flat-cable that had a pci male on one end, and a pci female on the other.

Has anyone heard of if these exist? and If so, where I could get one?

Thanks,

[eko]

I'm pretty sure that no such thing exists, but I'm not positive.  Most thin clients have integrated vid/audio on the mobo.

it's called a riser and it's found on some mobos between the chipset and the AGP slot. It is another 'card' that changes the direction of the PCI slots.

it's called a riser card.  usually you'd find these on an NLX form factor case/motherboard.  it's basicly an adapter that makes a 90degree turn for your slot.  but you can't do this for ALL you PCI slots as you'll make your case fatter.  if you really want to do this i'd suggest getting an NLX board.  all your stuff will work on it, so it's not like you'll be trashing everything to get this done.  after you find the board, get an NLX case and powersupply so you're not wasting your time with other HUGE components.

i also just heard that the cable idea was tried back with the 8086 boards were still popular.  seems M$ bought the patent from the company who invented it and it just died... imagine that.

I heard him too!  *gasp*  *bookmarks post*

This one will go down in history.  :D  Almost as good as that one post where he admitted that OS  X is the greatest OS ever.  :D

Crap on M$.

I bet I could build one from broken MOBOs and PCI cards that I can get from the PC repair shop down the road.

NLX could work.  Since I'm building the case, finding that won't be a problem.
