personally chess or checkers would be a good ideas because you learn to utilize grids and it helps to build on switch or if statements

Do whatever game you feel like making. There is no set list.

What are your view about space invaders? will it be challenging after developing a tetris?

Thanks,

Space Invaders will be good - in fact, any fairly simple game you find interesting will be good.

To add my 2cents, Chess is very much *NOT* a simple game. At least, chess with an AI certainly isn't.

Space Invaders is as good a choice as any.

That's a good question for you to answer. I would point my browser to their respective sites, review the help and tutorial sections for completeness and clarity... then check out if what it does fits what you want them to do and your skill level. You know.. research!

best suggestion is to check the list and check out features and go from what best suits you. No one can tell you which one to use. Mainly because of it being bias in what they chose, may not be the best/useful to you. Think outside the box and explore. Part of game development!

I approach the learning process by creating games in succession of difficulty with the following method:

If you create a game that works and you feel that you have done a good job, you need to find a game that is slightly similar but with slightly more advanced features and work on it next. You said you've already created Tetris. If we break Tetris down into very simple parts, we basically have sprites that are drawn to the screen to represent each block object, you've got simple collision detection to stop the blocks when they hit other blocks, or the bottom or sides of the level, and you've got a score mechanism. We can take these three things and make them slightly more complex and create an entirely different game.

Advance from having static sprites to having some animated sprites. It's rather simple to get animated sprites set up and have them loop through frames, so that would be a logical next step after you can easily handle drawing static sprites to the screen.

Collision Detection is something that you've already got, although it is very basic. You could advance this system by creating hitboxes, and possibly multiple hitboxes, for each object to handle your collisions with a little more complexity.

A score mechanism is something that is used in a variety of different games, but it is handled slightly different for each type of game. To make this system a little more advanced, you could create a high score system that saves the top 10 scores to a text file, which can be read and drawn to the screen on a high scores screen within the game.

Putting these together, Space Invaders would make an excellent next step. Instead of making just a pure clone of Space Invaders, though, I would suggest improving it. Add in those animated sprites that I mentioned before, create a couple of different hit boxes for your ship and enemy ships so that you could have different sprites which will represent each type of ship with damaged parts, but still have the ability to continue flying and fighting. For instance, you could create sprites of your ship with each wing missing. Then you add hit boxes where those wings are located on the sprite based on it's position relative to the origin of the sprite, and when you take a hit in one of the hit boxes, you could change the sprite based on the damage it has taken.

Instead of trying to create clones of games that already exist, I suggest challenging yourself to make them slightly more advanced. If you're trying to create something new, constantly recreating something that already exists without changing it in any way will never result in something new.

Thanks :)
