Tea also has an effect on diabetes. Drinking tea can improve insulin activity up to 15 times, and it can be black, green or oolong. Herbal teas don't have any effect. The active compounds don't last long in the body, so you would have to drink a cup or more of tea every few hours to maintain the benefit. The catch is that you should drink it without milk (even soy milk), because milk seems to interact with the necessary chemicals and render them unavailable to your body.

If you're getting diabetes from drinking tea, you're fucking doing it wrong.
And I told you milk in tea was evil. Momma knows.

This conversation sounds awfully familiar to one I had on Sunday brunch with my family. Dad's wife's son shocked some people when he ordered coffee (he is a large soda drinker)... and then further shocked the table when he dumped about ten packets of sugar into that one cup. This escalated to an amusing conversation if that is "good for you or not".

Ew, sugar in tea? Wtf is wrong with you?
That reminds me, when I worked at Speederp, I saw a lot of people come in and get "coffee". I'd watch them, of course, and half of them would be like "omg I luuuurrrrrve coffee herp derp" as they grab a styrofoam cup, the sit there for 3 minutes dumping half the cannister of sugar in their cup, then about 10 flavored creamer cups, then regular creamer, then a squirt or 2 of liquid flavor. I'm like "you know we have flavored cappuccinos, right?" and they're like "no, I like just regular coffee". WTF?! That's not even coffee. Apparently, some "don't like the taste of the coffee". Then why fucking get it?

Of course I am a big fan of adult tea.

Side note - kids, don't drink. People are wrong when they tell you it makes you totally ass kicking awesome and the world a more colorful place. Yeah... and you totally don't get a panda as companion when you finish your hundredth bottle of zima. Wait, what?

I don't like the bitter taste in plain tea. (okay, 'bitter' isn't prolly the best word to describe it but I can't think of a better one right now.)

I used to drink Sheetz Cupo'ccino on a regular basis. Then I learned one medium cup (of my favorite Candy Cane flavor) contains 280 calories, 10g fat, 48g carbs, and 38g sugar.
To put this in perspective: my diabetic daughter is allowed 30g of carbs at breakfast... for the ENTIRE meal.

To be absolutely fair, there is an entire class of tea that absolutely needs milk. It's not really 'performance enhancer' tea the way normal tea (or coffee) is; it's a soft drink, with some caffeine.

I've also wanted to try some Kava Kava. It's supposed to act like beer or something plus you need to add milk to it so some of the chemicals dissolve.

I have what we call "Thai Iced Tea" here a lot. Had one last week, in fact. It's essentially strong tea with spices, a ton of sugar ( often food coloring ) and some evaporated or coconut milk floated on top, like an Irish coffee. I've never been 100% sure what the protocol was for mixing the dairy in.
Clearly I've been missing out on the "show" part of the drink. It'll never worry about mixing my Thai Iced Tea again.
Side note, Thai food can be infernally hot. Always order the super sugared tea. It's insurance against chili pain. Sugar is really the only thing that helps.
