Doesn't IBM make those microdrives that will hold 10 gb's on a chip the size of a quarter?

I'm not sure.
The real story here is that you can use a standard floppy (1.44 Mb) with little moding to the existing 3.5" drive. Though it would probably only be available on new systems/drives.

That's the thing, your bound by the 3.5's transfer rate. That may be damning even with SCSI.

I think the world is pretty much already passed up on disks and CD-RW's and DVD-RW's should be the standard.

yeah but if you think about it a tape drive is almost as slow as a floppy , so for businesses that want to back up alot of data and they dont really care how long it takes , this would be perfect , that and the 1 TB tapes ...

It was discussed as a replacement to the current 1.44Mb disks... Mainly for makers such as Dell and Compaq, pricing wasn't mentioned for replacement....HMMMM???

From IBM..."Current Microdrive capacities include 1GB, 500 MB and 340 MB."
