I've spent quite a lot of time reviewing and researching all the components I've chosen for this build, both for compatibility and quality. I am nearly 100% set on this configuration and would just like to make sure no one has either heard anything bad, or had a bad personal experience with the selected components. If you have heard anything bad or abnormal about the hardware, then I'd appreciate it if you could elaborate. Thanks for any help.

nexus,
i actually have that dvd burner,
and its a good one, just that it only works on one system, when i put it in my other one it refuses to open any dvds protected by drm. so legit dvds give it a problem.
i actually think its a compatability issue with the drive and something else in the pc. nonetheless i warn you because samsungs customer service was horrendous.
i'd get it just because its cheap as hell for a great drive, and new egg will help you out... but just a warning.

unfortunately i've read that about several other drives i was also considering. seems like drm is just a pain in the ass in general. good to know though, i will continue to look around before i settle on that one.

That case looks crazy nice. I personally run a NEC DVDR drive and I love it, it was very reasonable.

Ya'll wanna see some shit?
Watch this...
I think it's a waste of money. Invest it, you've got a perfectly good XPS sitting on your desk.

i had a perfectly good 650mhz box before i bought the xps too, it's not a matter of necessity, it's a matter of hobby and future proofing. i still dabble in gaming, and i'd like something more powerful to dick around with some newer stuff.

I have a question, lately I see lots of people (mainly "Geeks") buying from NewEgg. I've always (as long as I can remember) used TigerDirect, I think they have better prices personally (JMHO), and the support I've received from them is awesome and I always receive my product fast. So is this just a preference, or is NewEgg that much better than TigerDirect?
PS: Right now TigerDirect has some great prices on Intel Dual Core barebones kits

tigerdirect is the shady twin of technology websites.
newegg is legendary in their support, they will bend over backwards.
tigerdirect is hit and miss, i've had good and bad.
newegg doesn't always have the absolute best prices, but quality is top notch.
theres alot of horror stories about tigerdirect out there.

What more can I say? Arse kicking. Also, if you considered EVGA for your mobo, you should also check out XFX: same price range, and better support from what I've heard.
I just dont like your case. Too round for my person.

My only complaints with tiger direct are their vapor rebates. I still am waiting for a $50 rebate on a CD burner I bought in 2000 I wrote it off like 5 months after submitting it.

I notice they advertise with a lot of hidden rebates (I never really noticed until I started scrutinizing them after this thread) so now I'm just real careful to check for a hidden rebate before deciding on the price.
