the flagship Intel processor threw a little bit into the foray of price there... why not a 1800 for like 踰 less?  you can only open M$ Word so fast... and you prolly looked at a SB Audigy... and ####.. beeps can only sound as clean as your speakers... and as long as you're not doing production quality mixes... do you really need 64 simultaneous "voices"?  and the 64MB card could have only been a nVidia GeForce3... and even though it supports the pixel shading abilities of DirectX 8.1... there aren't any games that take full advantage of that yet... and the superdisk... lol.  not going to touch that one.  and why the combo DVD/CD-R?  you can't copy direct CD to CD that way... and if something breaks in it... you're out a drive... that won't play one or the other... or won't do ANYTHING.
other than that... i think it's a killer setup.  i like the RAM and the monitor size you chose... i'm still trying to fill up my 20GB HDD... (my Mp3s are stored remotely) but i guess 100BG is something to GROOOW into.

I remembered a few more random specs, the video card was AGP 4x as well.

You're right about the DVD/CD-RW. I would probably be better off with two drives but I always make an image before I create a CD anyway, so that wasn't a problem.

As far as the HD, I have a 40GB that is almost full. I tend to be a pack rat and have several GB of files, utilities, games, etc I have DLed over the years. I keep it all fairly well organized so can usually find something quickly if I need it. One of these days I really need to remove at least some of the older files to off line CD storage to free up HD space.

It was mostly a status thing though. It would be interesting to be able to chip in with the above stats when someone was bragging about their super dooper 1.4GHZ, 256M Ram, 40GB HD system ...

... of course I have also been known to claim I am still running Win 3.1, 12M Ram, and a 512KB HD.  }:->
