DVD Problem

Posted 31 May 2002 - 08:04 AM

this is probably more of a software problem...but it _involves_ the DVD player.

basically my DELL has a DVD ROM. I have been able to play DVDs on it fine for like 2 years. Now, when i put a DVD into the drive it doesn't recognize anything. It just keeps spinning it round. When i go into My Computer and try to explore the DVD ROM i just get the "device is not ready" message, so its not the player software i'm using. Normal CDs work.

Please help me if you think you know what might be wrong.

could be the DVD driver. this is pretty iffy. a reload would have to cure that though. other than that... CD vs. DVD use two different lasers with two seperate focusing lenses. completely possible for one to die and the other to work perfectly fine. try putting the drive in a differnt PC if you don't want to reload.
a new PC sounds peachy too. Dells suck though :) get a sony.
