How DreamWorks SKG is Using Linux

Posted 24 April 2002 - 12:24 PM

Wether you're a Linux fan or not, NewsForge has a great read up today. They take a look at how DreamWorks SKG is using Linux on both back and front end in their movie development. Here is a small taste:
PDI/DreamWorks replaced its entire "render farm" with x86-based servers running Linux. For "Spirit," the company created a 250-node Linux cluster for back-end rendering. Over the months, the cluster has grown to its current size of 1,000 CPUs.

Like I said, Linux fan or not, this is a must read for any one interested in computers and/or design.

That only makes sense. They need an Opensource OS to do what they want it to, uh, what else would you use?
