Mandriva Linux localhost.localdomain Login:

Posted 28 December 2012 - 08:01 AM

Hi, this is my first time installing Mandriva Linux. During the install, it gave me "localhost.localdomain Login: ". I looked on the internet to find out what that meant, and I read that it is just naming your computer. So, I entered a name that I would remember. Next, I was promted to enter a password. I entered a password that I would remember thinking that it just sets that as my password. After I entered those 2 things, it said "Invalid Login". What do I do?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

if it said

Login: <you entered something>
Password: <you entered something>

then it was not setting the logging, but prompting you for an existing one.

localhost is your machine. localdomain is your network, like Windows uses Workgroup, although a Work group is not a domain.

Your username is root if you didn't get asked to create a user. Your password is the password that you were asked to create.

& if you didn't create a password for root, it's generally a blank password on a new install.

I tried leaving it blank and I have never set one up before and it just said "Invalid Login". Also, it's not connected to my network yet, this is the first time I have tried loading any kind of OS onto my computer

Don't know what help we can be. We didn't set the password.

Since this is a new install, you won't lose anything by reinstalling.

If this is your first experience with Linux, then I would suggest a distribution other than Mandriva, as it seems to be misleading once installed.

But other than those suggestions, there isn't much anyone can do to help you login.

best way to learn. If you run in to any more problems, you can keep coming back and asking questions :)
