mandrake 8.2

ok ill admit im a n00b to linux but i want to mess around with it cause my job is going to be putting it on some machines and someone needs to figure things out. i need to install something and it is .tar.gz when i try to open it, it says that there is no veiwer, i went into the setting but i cant seem to tell what veiwer to use. can someone help me out here. slashy?

gzip is what is needed for .gz files. It should be present on even the most basic of Mandrake installs. You should find it in the Archiving Programs you can also access it from the Command Line. See if you have it installed.
