Finally getting to 'The Kill Society' (Sandman Slim, #9) by Richard Kadrey.. never fails to entertain.
'The Monster Hunter Files' (Monster Hunter International) was a nice short story smattering to the MHI universe.. I would recommend due to redneckish guns, monsters, and world ending fun, but I would recommend starting at MHI #1.

Everything You Love Will Burn, by Vegas Tenold. Notes from one journalist's time following various white supremacists around. A quick read and worth the time, and there are even some pretty funny moments in there.

I was at the library on Tuesday by chance and I saw they had a stack of copies of Comey's book, so I grabbed one. So far, it's nothing very engrossing and I don't expect it to be a go-out-of-your-way-to-read-it read, but it's not actually bad.
If you care, you've probably already read the parts you care about it in the Times.
Also picked up Scalzi's new one, Head On. Looks fantastically silly, I expect I'll enjoy it.

The last scatter shot of short stories came up a dud for new authors so back to whittling down the ol' goodreads list.
About to start up Gaiman's Trigger Warning. A super long 'foreward' so that can't be an all too positive sign.

It was a so-so book. Some of the stories were good, a few were not.. but definitely all over the place. Not bad, but like most short story collections a odd crap shoot.
Now on to Mash: A Novel About Three Army Doctors.

Too much of my reading list these days feels like a reaction to the White House having turned into the White Supremacy House. Reading Philip Roth's The Plot Against America right now, he seems to have really had a Cassandra moment there.
On a more rarified tip, I read two oddly related books of philosophy while I was away over the last week. One is a recent book on idealisation by Kwame Anthony Appiah called As If, the other was an older collection of essays by Sylvain Bromberger called On What We Know We Don't Know. The former deals with mental structures which work something like hypotheticals and something like simplifications, but are taken as "facts" for purposes of theorizing. A good example is the economist's construction of "homo economicus". Obviously, economists all the way back to Smith have been aware that no human being is perfectly rational and in possession of all relevant data, but by assuming this idealized "rational actor" we can make more coherent theories of economics. The latter collection deals with the philosophy and linguistics around ignorance and the theory of theories.
Good stuff, if you like that sort of thing.

Recently read Forging Divinity and Stealing Sorcery by Andrew Rowe. Not a bad couple of books. Most interesting to me is that it was based off his table-top RPG campaign that he was running. Some pretty interesting things when you consider that the books are written about the exploits of some PCs (and NPCs) in an RPG.

Started Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman.
So far.. ho-hum collection of Norse myths that I have read in other formats before. No modern takes. Can't see this being more than a 3/5 stars.
ISBN-10: 1408886804
ISBN-13: 978-1408886809

Steven Brust has not one, not two, but three new titles out - one in the Jhereg series, one collaboration with Skyler White, a sequel to The Incrementalists, and one solo standalone called Good Guys. I left the Jhereg title on the shelf, because I feel like he's sort of lost the thread on that series, but picked up the other two. Good Guys, so far, is a good bit of fun. I expect if you're a fan of Butcher or Stross or Scalzi, you might well enjoy it.

Right now - TekWar by William Shatner. It was on sale. Not bad. As pulpy as I imagined (and remember from the TV).
