I admit I read too quickly

Me too. But I'm going to wait a bit for the re-read. I'll probably re-start from the beginning a month before the next book comes out. I speed read unintentionally, so I do miss a lot, but I love re-reading books, so it all works out. I can extend my enjoyment of a series far beyond it's initial read.

Ya I'm listening to WoR again, and enjoying it.

His other cosmere books are awesome. Did you catch the cobbler who seemed to know about the cosmere in WOR?

Warbreaker is one of my favorites, I think I've called it the most visually intense text I've ever read. Very good book. The magic system is cool - actually the magic of Stormlight Archive isn't dissimilar.

Yeah, I spotted that cobbler.

And I know what you mean about Warbreaker being visually intense text. It doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense unless you've read the book.

@depricated - sweet. It sounds very similar (though less IT-ish) to Charles Stross' "The Laundry" series.. which I have a great appreciation for.

Yeah, if you like the Laundry files, you might well enjoy Dresden - they're in a similar vein.

If you liked 1984, you really want to read The Circle. I imagine it's a little like reading 1984 - in 1948.

oh my to read pile now. i find eggers hit or miss, but the first half of 'a heartbreaking work of staggering genius' is one of my favorites. (it fell apart towards the end though)

I finished up "Bad Apple" by Kristi Petersen Schoonover and was pleasantly surprised by the ending and having to track back to view the book through a different lens. A bit bland over all, but the ending was nicely done in a twist, and, for me, thrashed my benign acceptance of a coping mechanism the main character had..

Unsure what's next... have that trove of fantasy novels.. so I may ditch the last few of these horror novels for something of a slightly higher caliber.

The girlfiend forwarded this link to Myke Cole writing on violence in fantasy novels. Interesting piece, some of you readers might find worth a look.

Much like my magic systems and stories, I prefer my violence non-realistic.

Almost done with Words of Radiance. Sweet cthulthu it's good. And a little depressing.

There's a signing by Brandon Sanderson nearby tomorrow I'm considering going to. Not sure if I can afford the drive and the book at the moment, but I want to try. Wish it were Friday or Saturday.

If I do go, what question should I ask him?

And yet again, the fight scenes in the book are totally anime.

Ask him whether he would like to see Mistborn Empire turned into a movie.

I'd love to see that happen, but I know that it wouldn't do justice to the books.

At best it would be a good movie(trilogy). At worst it would crap all over the books.

I'm reading through this, myself. Interesting so far. I traded somebody I'm seeing "Player of Games" by Iain M. Banks - I'd be doing her a disservice if I didn't get her addicted to it (thanks jon!).
