The kids and I have been working on a puppet theater all afternoon. They're still hard at work making puppets and costumes and backdrops and props. They haven't even started writing scripts. This will keep them occupied for the entirety of Thanksgiving break.

Typical developers - ooh, look, let's build a platform! Ooops, we took too long building it, never got around to making anything deployable.

Doing some research on old gaming consoles. I'll be writing emulators for them, for fun. I'm starting with the gameboy color.

You could have two old guys arguing endlessly about some silly trivial thing that really doesn't matter much to anyone!

Have gorged self. The brussels sprouts were phenomenal, and my green beans with mushrooms turned out very nice. Reading graph theory and drinking coffee now.

My kids left for a weekend with their father at noon. I took nap, grabbed a shower, and am headed out for a kid-free, man-free night of debauchery with my girlfriends. Yay!!

Re: What are you working on today?

Today I went out to shoot my precious precious Anchutz .222 for the first time in a while (purely because I lost my reloading dies and ammo is very expensive/hard to come by now). I went to load a round and the bolt wouldn't close. I tried and few times more. Tried a different cartridge and finally it went it just fine as if there was never an issue. I promptly proceeded to fire to see it worked perfectly. As I went to reload the bolt was stuck. I couldn't get it out and had to go home (which was sad cuz I was going to show off by shooting cans across the field)

So I pored a little Kroil down the barrel to get to the chamber and I put a little on the end of the bolt and periodically tried removing the bolt. Finally it worked.

I HAD RUST IN MY CHAMBER!!! Only a little but I was quite upset. Luckily none in the barrel (I would have been rather upset with myself had it been in the barrel; I can't replace this barrel). I cleaned it out real well, oiled everything well and got it all working.

So today I decided it was time to clean all of my dad's and my guns. That is what I did today. Cleaned, oiled, and polished all the guns in the house.

I'm heading back to Blacksburg this afternoon. Once I get there, I will be working on Cryptography most likely for the rest of the weekend. This homework assignment is essentially to implement AES. Dealing with Galois fields is more difficult than I anticipated, and I've learned that even though {0, 1}^{8} is isomorphic to GF(2^{8}), divisibility over polynomials isn't equivalent to divisibility over the integers. It's complicated implementation some, but at least I'll know what I'm doing by the time I'm done with homework.
