Forget a 1TB drive, just use an 8 gb thumb drive. SSD man, on the cheap.
I actually had this situation once myself. They were losing thousands per day because of storage space. Yes, I understand it's a band-aid solution. But it buys you time to pull your head out of your ass & correctly provision the project.
QUIT MAKING ME DO THIS WITH MY HANDS TIED!
I won't bother to share with you my recent task to put together a "wishlist" of all the resources I'll need to build out sites after the new year. The short explanation is that they hired me as a CF dev and I know exactly what they want and I've been doing this kind of work for awhile now. So, I know exactly what I need to do the job. Turns out, my needs didn't cost enough so the spreadsheet was quietly sent back while being told "I'd allocated $50K in resource expenses and your list doesn't hit even 1/5 of that".
Color me surprised that I had no idea I'd need a new SAN array to build a corporate intranet site...but lo and behold, it seems I do.
Wow.
At the job I was recently let go from, part of the perceived 'worthlessness' of my team was that our operating costs kept going down as I built up the application we used for our processes. When I got with the DB2 admins to get data from their databases instead of running jobs directly on the mainframe to pull data, it saved us money because we weren't using that processor time. When I integrated our alerting through our I3 Phone System instead of using a third party service that charged per-call, it saved us money. But what they came back with was "you guys don't do anything!"
Of course, I still have eyes on the inside there. Apparently they're barely keeping their heads above water now.
And where I'm at with my black box issue, it's because it's a customer system, not corporate incompetence. We have a way to test, I'm told, and we're working on figuring out what that is.

It's a blizzard today or something. Also a final and my company's Xmas party at a fancy pants restaurant. I don't know what's on the menu.
