Enable Credit Card Payment For DIC++ Subscription

Posted 27 March 2013 - 09:46 AM

I was just about to buy myself some juicy DIC++ membership, but I noticed that you're a little light on payment options. Sure, I could link a credit card to my paypal, but my previous three attempts to do that have failed.

I think that Paypal hates my bank. They're supposed to send you a few cents, and then you tell them how much they sent to confirm -- but they never send the money. Anyway, that's not what this thread is about.

I would just like to see Credit Card support for DIC++ membership. Maybe there's even a tutorial on the site somewhere with information on how you might implement that.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

My own opinion. I do not speak for the site.

I'm betting the cost and recurring fees out way the income. DIC doesn't run a big eCommerce trade with a catalog of products. You're talking about a glorified email account, that keeps you from seeing the ads on the site.

Hate to sound like an arse for putting it this way but... Maybe you should resolve the problems in your own house rather than ask others to adopt new schemes to compensate for your banking issues. I'm not saying that PayPal is perfect, but its used by millions. They have a support system: Write them to get it cleared up.

Sorry if I sound snippy but I've personally never cared for the mentality of "My kid has a nut alergy so your school has to change its ways so I don't have to train my kid to not eat peanut butter."

I'm sorry if that's the way my post came off. I didn't mean to sound needy, or bossy. I truly don't understand the logistics of adding payment support for credit cards.

Are there hoops that you must jump through to open a MoneyBrokers account? I don't know, and I'll probably never need to know. I was just posing a harmless suggestion.

Thank you for your feedback, though.

I can say that it's no trivial task to start processing credit cards. First of all, that's a business that I'm sure DIC wants no part of. You have to consider all kinds of security risks when it comes to handling other people's personal information, especially credit card details. On top of that, it would probably cost more to set up the infrastructure than the site would make from DIC++.

Paypal removes the need for a site to store any kind of private information at all.

Trust me. If you can avoid touching your customer's information, you're way ahead of the game, because then they can't hold you responsible for a breach that can't happen.

Yes indeed there are hoops,

I speak as someone who ran their own software site

and paypal is definitely the way to go.

Paypal accepts most credit cards even debit cards

for reasons that have been already pointed out.

Snoopy.

Exactly! The same can be done with just using Adblock Plus. Though signing up for DIC++ you're getting the added benefit of knowing you helped keep the site alive longer.

I've never had PayPal do anything of the sort with a credit card. I do know that if you set it to your bank account, they will process a quick debit/credit transaction to ensure that the account can process any transactions, but when a credit card is used, it's nothing more at that point than a credit card transaction. Perhaps, you're trying to use a debit card which may warrant this debit/credit transaction trial but I'm not sure why it would. Not saying it's not the case, just haven't seen it happen in my experience. Have you contacted your bank to ensure that you have all the proper information to accept wire transfers?
