ISP's watching what you download?
Posted 05 April 2013 - 11:06 AM
I was wandering if TWC was the same as Comcast when it comes to watching what you download. With comcast I ripped a movie off a disk and reformatted it to work on my ipod and 3 days later I got a copyright infringement notice for that movie. I was pissed off when I got that for something I didn't download and I bought legally. Does anyone know if TWC monitor's what is downloaded and what is on my computer?

We already have like 4 threads on this spread around the lounge. Most recently being only a month ago or so.
Also I don't think Comcast gave you warning for what you describe, because unless there was some extra step in there... there's no way they could have known you did that.
And yes, Time Warner Cable has similar practices to Comcast about online activity. They will send you a letter/e-mail if it's reported to them that your IP was tracked downloading copyrighted material. I don't know what there account procedures are though... probably similar to Comcast. Which is like 3 strikes in 6 months and your account get temporarily banned.

I have Comcast and I have torrented a lot of anime and I have never got one notice from them. I don't even use a proxy.

Cause you're torrenting anime...
That's like saying, "I've never been caught washing my donkey on Sunday"... it may be illegal in New Jersey, but no one really cares.

You're download logs are probably posted on the Comcast break room wall on the "Worst Downloads of the Week!" cork board..
