and pretty much anything in between excluding country haha.

I hear this a lot from people, but the country music today isn't the country music your parents or grandparents listened too. Sure there's a twang and the my truck won't start style lyrics but quite a bit of it is pretty rocking and upbeat. It's more Pop music then

Try this out or this
or this semi metal country song

TL;DR don't dismiss it completely, but inject some into your playlist occasionally :)/>/>

Brantley Gilbert and Jason Aldean are kind of the "new country" artists. There are tunes from both that I keep on my playlist. I've been listening to more Luke Bryan and Craig Morgan of late (yeah, I'm perpetually late to the party).

The folks that don't care for country typically do so for two reasons: ignorance (they think it's more like Conway Twitty) and they don't do things where that kind of music contributes to the scene. People tend to view music as an accompaniment to some kind of activity they or their friends are doing. I mean, I used to listen to Metallica, AC/DC, Venom and whatnot when I was a kid...but that's because when I was a kid I was doing kid things. If I'm out on a boat on the lake, I'm out to catch some rays, go swimming, have some beers and generally stretch out and relax. Furious Voivod headbanging doesn't really mix with that scene.

I wouldn't say I'm ignorant, but I don't object to saying the music tastes change. A lot of my friends listen to country and I've listened to quite a bit myself, but cant say Ive gotten into it. It might be an age thing, it could be my location, among lots of other factors. I also don't tell country music listeners that they have bad taste or anything of the sort because I know lots of people wouldn't agree with my tastes. But thank you for the links, I've listened to all that have been mentioned and am always interested in new music/artists! :walkman:

Bah - let's face it.. good country died when Timelife snatched up the cds and started hawking them on a 'Classic Country' or 'AM Country Gold' box set, and rap pulled an "Ethan Frome meets an elm tree" after the Chronic album. Shit's still around but it sure looks funny.

Robbie Fulks, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett, kd lang, Neko Case, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, and Butch Hancock, just to start pulling out names, would all probably disagree with this.

Maybe you wouldn't, but they would. And if you haven't heard 'em, that's your own damn fault, 'cause it's none of mine.

I like the fusion side of Jazz too. The more Jazz/Rock sounding stuff. Bands like OHM and 7for4. OHM has Chris Poland, the former Megadeth lead guitarist it in, but it's NOTHING like Megadeth. And 7for4 has Wolfgang Zenk, I believe he was with Sieges Even. Anyway, worth mentioning.

Talking Heads is REALLY good! Any favorite songs? Mine are This Must Be The Place and Road To Nowhere.

1) Swamp 2) Psycho Killer 3) My karaoke rendition of "Burning Down the House". Sort of like John Candy does David Byrne. :)
