I have read many articles on dual booting the 2 systems, but am unsure if I can do what I want to. I have just purchased a new desktop with Vista Home Premium installed. I plan on taking the old hard drive out of existing computer and installing it in the new one as a second drive. It of course has all my old programs, including the XP operating system. Is it posible for me to dual boot using this drive as the XP and will I be able to use the old programs and settings when I choose to boot to XP.
Hope you can solve this problem for me.

straight up, no.
any application installed on an OS is only available there. I have written tutorials for installing XP or Vista last in the dual boot process on this site, if you still wish to do it.
Vista already installed
XP already installed

Thank u for the reply..I am new to this, so please forgive any mistakes I make. Isnt installing another drive the same as creating a partition on an existing drive? Is there some way I can do tis other than creating another partition? If not can I follow your instructions and install XP pro on a new partition and then still accass the files and programs on the second drive. After removing XP from that second drive.
Thanks again

Since you have XP installed on your 2nd drive you should be able to access those programs and such from XP only, you cannot access the programs on the XP drive from Vista, and vica versa.
